Job Plan: 10 PAs (8.5 DCC: 1.5 SPA)
Tumour Sites: Urology and Breast (flexible based on experience/interest)
On-Call Rota: 1 in 8
Department Overview:
Our Oncologists lead the inpatient and outpatient services for Clinical and Medical Oncology, delivering comprehensive radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) across all tumour sites, excluding rare cancers.
Current Medical Workforce:
12 Consultant Oncologists
2 Associate Specialists
2 Medical Oncology SpRs
3 Clinical Oncology SpRs
2 Speciality Doctors and 2 GPVTS Doctors (Acute Oncology Service)
1 CMT2 Trainee
1 Physician Associate
The Haematology team shares inpatient ward and outpatient facilities within the directorate.
Clinical Duties
This is a 10 PA role (8.5 DCC: 1.5 SPA), focused on the management of Urological and Breast cancers, with flexibility on tumour site allocation depending on applicant experience and interest. Part-time working and site preferences may be accommodated.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery of systemic oncology services (SACT)
Participation in outpatient clinics and MDTs
Clinical supervision of the inpatient ward during on-call weeks
Participation in the 1-in-8 on-call rota, with reduced clinic commitments during on-call weeks
Mentorship and reduced clinical load for new consultants (8.0 DCC: 2.0 SPA in Year 1)
Approx. 200 new patient consultations per year (subject to demand)
Additional Opportunities:
SABR Team involvement (pelvic nodes and simple bone oligometastases)
Prior experience not essential; training and peer support provided
Teaching and mentoring opportunities within the department and the trust

Weekly Oncology Journal Club (mandatory for all medical staff)
Monthly Mortality & Morbidity Meetings
Weekly Palliative Radiotherapy Training Sessions
The Trust provides regular appraisals, 5-year revalidation, and access to study leave. Mandatory Trust training must be maintained.

Attend and contribute to monthly directorate governance meetings and twice-monthly consultant meetings
Leadership training and mentoring are provided for new consultants. There are numerous opportunities for leadership roles within the FASS Directorate and wider Trust, which may carry additional PAs depending on the scope.
