Head of Key Stage 3 English (Hailsham Academy)
Hours of work: 32.5 hours, Working pattern: Full-time, Start date: from April 2026, Contract: Permanent, full time.
Position: Head of Key Stage 3 English to lead our department in delivering outstanding teaching and learning. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher with leadership potential to shape the curriculum, raise achievement, and foster a love of English among our students.
School overview: Hailsham Academy is a split site, all-through school serving approximately 1,800 students. The secondary phase serves around 1,500 students and the primary phase around 300. The school is located near Eastbourne and the south coast, minutes from a National Park and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Staff travel to Hailsham from the southeast region.
History and context: In 2018 the Local Authority approached us to provide a new Primary and Pre‑school provision. In September 2019 a brand‑new school opened approximately a mile from the secondary site, extending the Trust to a 2–19 all-through school. Since the last Ofsted inspection in March 2023, we have updated our leadership structure, revised the pastoral structure, and reinforced the focus on quality education and curriculum implementation.
Trust and vision: We joined MARK Education Trust in September 2025. The Trust values schools retaining their unique identity while working in partnership. This collaboration will support Hailsham Academy in building on excellent teaching and learning and providing further support for our students, enhancing capacity and efficiencies. Our vision is to provide the best possible education for all students and to be an exceptional high‑performing school locally and nationally, with a culture of aspirational ambition and high standards.
