Lila Sciences is seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our physical sciences team, with a focus on materials characterization. This is a hands‑on, lab‑based opportunity for pre‑doctoral candidates to support experimental workflows and data processing for materials discovery. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage in innovative research and development activities across multiple disciplines, hone a diversity of skills, and help realize a new paradigm in scientific discovery.
What You'll Be Building
* Execute and monitor materials characterization workflows across diverse chemistries and functionalities
* Assist in analysis of materials characterization data under supervision.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including experimental and machine learning scientists, to support characterization efforts for scientific objectives.
* Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
* Assist in quality check and preventative maintenance of the instruments.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
* Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
* Prior experience in working in a laboratory environment.
* Hands‑on work with common characterization tools such as profilometer, XRD, SEM, and XRF
* Attention to detail in experimental execution and data interpretation
* Effective, respectful written and verbal communication skills
* Comfort working in interdisciplinary, fast‑paced environments
Bonus Points For
* Familiarity with high throughput scientific platforms
* Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automating data analysis
* Experience with CAD drawing and prototyping
