Description
Torbay Assessment & Intervention Service is currently looking to appoint a Full Time Social Worker. The role involves delivering intensive support to families to enable them to provide nurturing environments for children. You will conduct thorough assessments, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and develop intervention plans to support at‑risk families. You will identify and address immediate concerns and empower families to achieve long‑term stability and well‑being. The role requires excellent communication, case management, and the ability to navigate complex emotional scenarios with empathy and professionalism. Essential skills include strong interpersonal and communication skills, mediation, negotiation, problem solving, crisis management, and anti‑discriminatory practice.
Excellent recording and report writing skills and IT proficiency are required. As an A&I Social Worker you will be a team player, a good communicator, and a self‑motivated professional who can work flexibly. In addition to managing a caseload, you will participate in a duty rota to support the service. This post is Regulated Activity and requires an Enhanced Criminal Record Check plus a Barred List Check.

* Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Knowledge
* Good understanding of the full range of activities delivered by the Authority and partners in relation to children, young people and families.
* Developed knowledge of Social Care policies and procedures, and continual awareness of new Child Care legislation and National Guidance.
* Awareness of effective management practices.
* Thorough understanding of current legislation and guidance and developments in services to children, young people and families.
* Advanced and detailed knowledge of child development, attachment theory, anti‑discriminatory practice, the framework for assessment of children in need and their families, social work theory, and methods.
Experience & Qualifications
* Social Work degree qualification, e.g., Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent.
* Membership of Social Work England.
* Commitment to continued professional development.
* Significant post‑qualification experience working with children and families in the context of current legislation and government initiatives.
* Experience of complex Child Protection cases and Court proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989.
