Children’s Duty Qualified Social Worker

Pay Rate: £33.30 per hour
Contract: Locum (Full-Time)

We’re working with a supportive and dynamic local authority in the West Midlands to recruit a dedicated Duty Social Worker within Children’s Services. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fast-paced frontline team at the first point of contact for children and families, providing early help and protection when it’s needed most.
About the Role: As a key member of the Duty & Assessment Team, you’ll be at the forefront of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. You will:
1. Undertake Child & Family Assessments, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
2. Work closely with professionals across health, education, and police to achieve the best outcomes for children.
3. Focus on early intervention and sustainable change, linking families to the right services at the right time.
4. Use your professional knowledge to make informed decisions on risk, protection, and care planning.
5. Apply best practice and current legislation in all aspects of your work.
The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for a committed and skilled social work professional who is:
6. Registered with Social Work England
7. Qualified (4+ years PQE) with significant frontline experience in Children’s Services
8. Experienced in child protection, duty & assessment, and multi-agency working
9. Knowledgeable of relevant legislation and best practice in children’s safeguarding
10. A confident communicator with excellent mediation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
11. Passionate about improving outcomes for children and supporting vulnerable families
12. Flexible, reflective, and resilient under pressure
Key Responsibilities:
13. Manage a varied caseload with autonomy and confidence
14. Complete timely and high-quality assessments
15. Develop and implement child-centred care plans
16. Use specialist communication and analytical skills to support effective decision-making
17. Offer guidance to students and unqualified staff where required
