Overview
We are looking to appoint an outstanding Commis Chef to assist with the catering service to students, staff, parents and visitors to Halliford School. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and hardworking team player willing to join a busy and vibrant department. The core student and staff catering service operates daily term-time only, with additional catering to support events during the school day, in the evening and at weekend sporting events.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation and delivery of high quality and healthy meals and work within a dedicated catering team.
* Support catering operations to accommodate term-time service as well as events (e.g., Open Days, concerts, PTA events) in the evenings and weekends.
* Contribute to a safe and clean kitchen environment in line with health and safety requirements.
* Support marketing events during term time as required.
* Work flexibly to accommodate varying hours, with core hours typically 8am to 4pm in term time and occasional Saturday mornings for sports fixtures.
Qualifications and Skills
* Previous catering experience enabling effective preparation and delivery of meals.
* Strong understanding of health and safety considerations in a catering setting.
* Awareness of budget management and cost-conscious procurement.
* Empathy for working with young people and alignment with Halliford School’s aims and ethos.
Hours, Salary and Application Process
Salary is competitive and dependent on experience. The hours of work may vary, with core hours 8am to 4pm in term time, including an occasional Saturday morning for sports fixtures. There may be additional evening and weekend events, such as Open Days, concerts and PTA events.
