LONDON BOROUGH OF LEWISHAM JOB DESCRIPTION Designation: Technical Officer – Pest Control Grade: Scale 5 Reports to (Designation): Pest Control and Allied Services Manager Grade: PO4 Directorate: Customer Services Service Area: ENVIRONMENT Green Scene ___________________________________________________________________ Main Purpose of the job: To provide an efficient and responsive pest control service for residential and commercial premises within the borough. Ensure that relevant statutory responsibilities, Council and Directorate policies are effectively implemented. ___________________________________________________________________ Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties: 1. To carry out responsibilities and statutory duties of the Council under delegated authority as assigned 2. Attend Court, Public Inquiries etc to give evidence on behalf of the council where necessary 3. Participate fully in the professional and technical activities of the team, including inspection of premises, surveys, investigations and treatments as necessary. Be responsible for the safe keeping and maintenance of all allocated plant. equipment and materials. 4. Collect and dispose of clinical waste, including indiscriminately discarded sharps as required. 5. Maintain written records of all work carried out. Prepare routine correspondence and reports as required. 6. Ensure that all pest control procedures are carried out safely, and that customers are informed of the safety procedures accordingly. 7. To advise the public on methods of pest prevention proofing and basic hygiene, having due regard to public sensitivity about pests 8. Provide customers with estimates of the cost of chargeable services. 9. Ensure that the correct fees are received, and receipts issued for chargeable services. 10. Assist with publicising all Pest Control & Allied services. Assist in the provision of lectures and talks, and outreach services to community groups 11. Ensure technical standards are maintained. Keep up to date with new developments in all relevant areas. Recommend changes to service provision to meet emerging needs 12.Undertake all works in accordance with the established Quality Management system to maintain accreditation to BS EN ISO 9001:2001. 13.Assist with the development of work programmes and projects, including initiatives to meet new priorities and service objectives. 14.Attend and participate in meetings regarding the service as required. 15. Assist in the maintenance of Health & Safety standards, and the required monitoring of the control of substances hazardous to health regulations 16.Undertake training and attend seminars in the area of pest control and allied services as Directed. 17.Undertake the duties of the post with due regard to the sensitive nature of the services Provided. 18.Participate fully in the services response to urgent/emergency calls. Including responding to calls outside normal working hours. Internal contacts: These include Senior staff of other council departments, Partner organisations, Members of the Council. Physical Generally candidates must meet standard Lewisham requirements for the post. Must hold a recognised Pest Control qualification (RSPH Level 2 or equivalent) Weekend working is required for this job (for which overtime will be paid at 1.25) A Full and current clean UK Driving License Ideally but not essential experience in bird control work Experience in dealing with Bird Pest Species & their control, safe removal of Guano, proofing & prevention techniques & measures. The candidate must be dependable, honest and be prepared to work outside the normal perimeters of their working hours. We are looking for problem solvers with a can-do attitude and an approach in helping residents and customers to solve pest issues within their homes and workplaces. You will have an eye for detail and be able to keep accurate records both digitally and written to plan and schedule appointments in an effective and timely manner. You will need to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative. You will need to have a good level of health & dexterity, physical ability to climb ladders, crawl into tight spaces and lift heavy equipment. The role will require you to be attentive, assertive, driven with a willingness to support customers with a diverse range of backgrounds in sensitive situations.
