If yes, we have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Occuational Therapist to take a lead role in the advanced assessment andtreatment of complex in patients with orthopaedic,trauma and amputation conditions.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide ahigh quality service for all patients
2. Take thelead role for management of the trauma and orthopaedic inpatient wards andamputee outpatient service.
3. Determine clinical diagnosis and developeffective treatment plans.
4. Provide clinical leadership to other members ofthe Therapy team.
5. Maintain own professional development anddemonstrate high standards of clinical performance and professional practice.
6. Work within standards of practice according tothe College of Occupational Therapy(COT) and local Trust policies.
7. To actautonomously in relation to patient assessment and treatment with limited supervision
8. To deputisefor the Therapy Service Lead and Integrated team leaderIn-patients as required.
9. To undertake the training, supervision and performancemanagement of Therapy staff and assistants allocated to the service.

Job responsibilities
10. Beprofessionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspectsof own work, including the management of patients in your care.
11. Ensure a high standard of clinical care for thepatients under your management.
12. Accept sole clinical responsibility for adesignated caseload of patients, and organise this effectively and efficientlywith regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
13. Undertake the specialist and comprehensiveassessment of patients referred from primary or secondary care,including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and using analyticalskills
14. Formulate individualised management andtreatment plans, using clinical reasoning, and utilising a wide range ofadvanced treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme ofcare in conjunction with the patient and carers.
15. Plan a care programme for individual patients inconjunction with other professional staff within the multidisciplinary team(MDT).
16. Provide specialist clinical expertise tocolleagues within the team and referrers to the service.
17. Communicate effectively with patients and carersto maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of condition.Communication skills of persuasion, motivation and explanation to encouragepatients to undertake their treatment programme.
18. Use verbal and non-verbal communication skills togain informed consent with patients where there will often be barriers toeffective communication loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive orreceptive dysphasia, pain, fear.
19. Assess capacity, gain valid informed consent andhave the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who may lackcapacity to consent to treatment.

20. Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
21. Registered with HCPC
22. Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent and relevant postgraduate courses
23. Clinical Educators Course

Experience

26. Evidence of comprehensive clinical band 6 experience within inpatient NHS
27. Experience with orthopaedic conditions
28. Supervision of more junior and support staff and students
29. Integrated working with Physiotherapists and assistants
30. Ability to alter supervision and teaching style to individual/group

31. Broad general experience
32. Participation in audit/evaluation/research.
