This role would be ideal for someone completing their GCSEs in Year 11, studying BTECs or A-levels at college or sixth form, or seeking experience in between periods of university study. LOCATION: Skegness – Roman Bank JOB TITLE: Laboratory Assistant (Summer Placement) JOB TYPE: Temporary Contract HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday – 09:00 - 17:00 (Including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, or a 1-hour unpaid lunch break for employees under the age of 18) SALARY RANGE: £13.45 per hour Job Purpose: Administer, undertake, and manage laboratory testing and activities within the Micronclean Laboratory, including microbiological, chemical, and physical testing. Analyse, interpret, and act upon routine test results, including carrying out investigations and implementing resolutions where appropriate. Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and accessible records of testing procedures, results, and associated documentation, including testing management reports. Job Role & Key Responsibilities: As a summer intern, you will be supporting your department with day-to-day tasks, such as: * Routine and ad-hoc testing and activities within the Micronclean Laboratory. * Sample preparation, conditioning, testing and disposal or preservation if necessary. * Reporting of results on a LIMS system. * Maintenance of the laboratory; keeping the laboratory equipment in a clean, safe, operational condition, including arranging, and carrying out calibration tests where applicable. * Support and contribute to the advancement of laboratory testing capability. * Provide an active role in supporting the wash trial facility. * Effectively communicate and support other business functions with testing understanding, results and scientific knowledge. Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications: * Scientific experience preferred, but not essential (an undergraduate part way through a degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology or related subjects, would be an advantage). * Good IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office products. * Good communication skills. * Full UK driving license. Personal attributes: * Personal drive and self-motivation. * Good time-management skills. * Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. * Good planning and recording skills. * Fluent spoken and written English.
