Technical Author – Slaughterhouses and Animal By‑products – UK BAT – 32429
Join the Environment Agency as a Technical Author in the UK BAT team. In this role you will draft BAT Conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups, and present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for the industry.
Responsibilities

* Liaise with Technical Working Groups.
* Present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard.
* Work with, and write technical documents.
* Support inclusive incident management objectives within your development plan.
* Travel and overnight stays may be required.
Qualifications
* Specialist knowledge and understanding of the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering, environmental issues, and environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Good project management skills and a drive to complete.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
* Capability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Experience & Skills Required
* At least 5 years working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
* Deep knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, in particular the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
* Understanding of the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits and on industry and the environment.
* Verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
* Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely, effective results.
* Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus.
Contract & Working Conditions
Full‑time, up to 2 years from appointment. Flexible working patterns, including job share, are welcomed. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
