The Role As a Senior SACT Nurse, you will be responsible for the delivery of chemotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy to patients within the unit, while providing senior clinical support and deputising for the line manager when required. This role offers an excellent opportunity to consolidate advanced clinical skills, work with a high degree of autonomy and contribute to the ongoing development and quality of the SACT service within a specialist oncology setting. What You’ll Do Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals throughout all stages of the treatment pathway. Deliver consistently high standards of evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, identifying patient needs and initiating appropriate interventions. Manage a defined patient caseload, ensuring continuity and coordination of care. Work closely with medical consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team. Order diagnostic tests within agreed parameters and scope of practice. Lead and deliver nurse-led clinics in line with service requirements. Work autonomously while providing clinical leadership, ensuring accurate and individualised plans of care with clear, contemporaneous documentation. Demonstrate advanced clinical competence in: Intravenous access, venepuncture and cannulation Central venous access device management Chemotherapy administration Recognition and management of anaphylaxis and extravasation Support a culture of safety, professionalism and compassionate, patient-centred care. What You’ll Have Experience & Skill Experience in intravenous drug administration and chemotherapy delivery. Post-registration nursing experience in oncology or a relevant specialty, with confidence to practise autonomously. Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure. Strong organisational, decision-making and prioritisation skills. Experience and competence in blood transfusion. Experience in bone marrow biopsies (desirable). Qualifications & Knowledge Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration. UKONS SACT Passport (or willingness to complete within three months of appointment). Fully trained and competent in venepuncture and cannulation. Experience working with a range of central venous access devices. Working towards, or willingness to undertake, a recognised chemotherapy qualification. UKONS-trained with experience in oncology telephone triage. Knowledge and experience in the recognition and management of neutropenic sepsis. Evidence of ongoing CPD and commitment to professional development.
