HR Advisor
Canterbury Cathedral is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.
We are looking for a HR Advisor to support the Cathedral Strategic and Delivery Plans.
The HR Advisor is a busy and rewarding role, some of the duties include:
- To oversee and administer all aspects of the recruitment process, draft, and place recruitment adverts, arrange, and attend interviews, supporting managers in this process.
- Draft permanent staff employment contracts and letters of employment.
- Support the Team with maintenance of the HR databases including Sage HR.
- Maintain learning database and issue refresher training when required.
- Deal with general HR related correspondence and queries from employees.
- Oversee the recruitment of Apprentices and liaise with college providers as required.
- Prepare, organise and deliver staff inductions.
- Ensure due diligence is maintained in line with Safer Recruitment.
- Support the HR Manager with projects.
- Advise managers on policy and process according to legislation and organisational requirements.
- Carry out the administration of staff appraisal and probation, highlighting concerns to the HR Manager.
- Assist with Disclosure & Barring Service checks, being a counter signatory to this process.
- Assist HR Manager with exit interview process, work with HR Manager to support continuous improvement plan and reporting to SLT.
- Take detailed and accurate notes at disciplinary and grievance meetings when requested.
- Co-ordinate occupational health referrals when requested to do so.
- Ensure that professionalism and confidentiality is always maintained.
- Carry out any other reasonable task as required and to work in a flexible way to always provide cover for the department.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The personal specification below indicates the qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills required to undertake the role effectively.
- CIPD qualification minimum level 3
- A high standard of education
- At least 2 years experience in a similar position
- Excellent IT skills, especially Microsoft outlook and Word
- Experience in the use of databases in particular Excel
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent standard of written English
- Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and purposes of the Cathedral, its mission and ministry.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Qualified to a Level 5 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development standard.
- Knowledge and experience of records management.
- Accounting or Payroll qualification.

LOCATION Canterbury Cathedral Precincts
The HR Advisor reports to the HR Manager
Hours of work Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A satisfactory basic disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required upon employment. The DBS Code of Practice is available on request.
