Job Title: Environmental Co-Ordinator
Location: Co. Waterford (On-site 4 days / Work-from-home 1 day per week)
Travel: Required to multiple farm sites
🌿 About the Role:
We're seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Environmental Co-Ordinator to take the lead on environmental compliance, sustainability, and resource management across a network of pig farms in Co. Waterford.
In this hands-on role, you'll ensure that slurry management, water use, air quality, and waste handling all meet regulatory and best-practice standards. You'll play a vital role in protecting the environment, supporting animal welfare, and maintaining strong community and regulatory relationships — while ensuring full compliance with EPA licence conditions. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in sustainable agriculture, helping shape environmental performance within a key Irish food production sector.
🌱 Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance & Reporting
 * Ensure full compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and EPA licence conditions.
 * Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on waste, water quality, slurry management, energy usage, and nutrient planning.
 * Prepare and submit environmental reports to the EPA, Local Authorities, and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
 * Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure all necessary permits are in place and current.
Slurry & Nutrient Management
 * Monitor and manage slurry storage, handling, and land application in compliance with the Nitrates Directive and licence requirements.
 * Develop and implement nutrient management plans that balance productivity and environmental protection.
 * Train staff and contractors on proper slurry handling and application practices.
Water & Air Quality Management
 * Oversee water use and promote conservation strategies across farm operations.
 * Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with groundwater protection, runoff control, and storage standards.
 * Support odour and air quality management plans in line with Best Available Techniques (BAT) to maintain good community relations.
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement
 * Identify opportunities to enhance environmental and resource efficiency, including renewable energy and recycling initiatives.
 * Work with farm leadership to integrate environmental best practices into daily operations.
 * Keep up to date with emerging environmental technologies, BAT requirements, and evolving regulations from the EPA, DAFM, and Bord Bia.
Training & Communication
 * Deliver environmental training and awareness sessions to farm staff and contractors.
 * Act as the main point of contact for regulators, consultants, and community stakeholders on environmental matters.
 * Manage EDEN and AgFood portals for reporting and compliance across farm sites.
🎓 Qualifications & Experience:
 * Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Natural Resources, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
 * Proven knowledge of livestock production systems, preferably within the pig sector (training provided if needed).
 * Familiarity with Irish environmental regulations governing water, waste, air, and slurry management.
 * Strong recordkeeping, organisation, and communication skills.
 * Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative farm team.
 * Experience developing nutrient management plans and coordinating slurry spreading programmes.
 * Previous interaction with EPA departments (Licensing or Enforcement) is an advantage.
 * Full Irish driver's licence required.
 * Strong command of English (written, spoken, and technical).
