Job Overview
This post is designed for an individual who has a specific interest in burns management or a general interest in plastic surgery and wishes to be part of the burns on‑call rota rather than the general acute plastic surgery rota. The post is offered on a full‑time (10PA) basis, although less than full‑time applications will be considered. Duties will be based at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Elective theatre lists – day‑case surgery takes place on the Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.
* Inpatient and burns/trauma operating – takes place on the Pinderfields site.
* Burns on‑call duties are shared between six colleagues (1 in 6 weekdays and weekends to coincide with weekend PA activity).
* Consultant of the week covering general trauma – 1 in 11 weeks.
* Consultant of the day covering burns acute – 1 in 6 weekdays and 1 in 6 weekends, responsible for both post‑operative and new burns referrals.
Training & Professional Development
The job plan aligns with specialty association intensity recommendations, with limited elective commitments generally maintained during on‑call periods, while retaining the flexibility to cancel such activities when clinical demand or service pressures require. Supporting professional activities will be in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service – examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles. Dedicated office space is provided on the Pinderfields site, with access to IT facilities on peripheral sites.
