We are looking for a committed Pupil Support Assistant (2) who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Pupil Support Assistant (2), you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support.
You will be required to:
1. Support pupils/children individually, in class, or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.
2. Contribute information to update planning and review processes for individual pupils/children.
3. Supervise pupil/child self-administration of medication. Offer a high level of personal care to enable the pupil/child to function to their full potential, including toileting, administering medication in line with training procedures, and encouraging self-help and independence.
4. Carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists, such as speech and language, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy programmes.
5. Support pupil/child mobility (as defined by moving and handling training) on an emergency or short-term basis, and for low-level needs, such as toileting or short-term injuries like a broken leg.

The Person

* You are required to have good interpersonal skills to work as part of a team and ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people.
* Experience supporting young people with additional support needs.
* Before confirming your appointment, you will need to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and join the relevant PVG scheme.
* You must be able to register with SSSC within 6 months of employment (for Early Learning Centres, Primary, and Special schools) and complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL). This includes achieving 2 National 5’s, 2 Standard Grades General, 2 O Grades, or equivalent (SCQF Level 4 or above).
* For Early Learning Centres, Primary, and Special schools: hold NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6, or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6, or a Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6, or be committed to achieving this during the first registration period as required by the employer.
