You are invited to apply for the role of Clinical Bed Manager. In this position, you will identify and assess patients for operational planning, managing the movement of those who need admission while prioritizing based on standards and risk. You will coordinate and oversee both elective and emergency admissions in line with the Trust Bed Management Policy, ensuring each patient receives the highest quality of care. As an integral part of the multi-professional team, you will work collaboratively to maintain smooth and effective patient flow throughout the organisation.
Main duties of the job
You will assist and support the Lead for Bed Management in the safe and effective management of all patients, including non-elective, elective, and TCIs from home, other Trusts, or clinics as needed. You will ensure patients are admitted promptly, maintaining smooth patient flow across wards and throughout the Trust. Providing advice and support on day-to-day priorities, risks, and issues related to patient access, admission, and flow will be a key part of your role. You will gather and monitor information on how effectively and efficiently patients are moving through the system, identifying any issues that arise. When problems occur, you will investigate and implement the most appropriate solutions, considering how frequently these issues impact patient flow and admissions.

* Assist and support the Lead for Bed Management in the safe, effective management of our patients including non- elective, elective and TCIs i.e. from home, other Trusts, clinics as necessary
* Ensure patients are admitted in a timely manner ensuring the flow of patients across wards and the Trust
* Provide advice and support to people on day-to-day priorities, risks and issues in relation to patient access, admission and flow
* Gather and monitor information in relation to the effectiveness and the efficiency of the flow of patients identifying any issue
* Investigate issues and implement the most appropriate way of addressing these taking into account the extent to which this is a common occurrence in relation to patient flow and admission
* Gain feedback on how to improve the flow of people and use it to improve future practice
* Develop strong relationships with all staff members within the Trust exercising and demonstrating advanced levels of reasoning and skill in the placement of patient
* Liaise with and use existing bed management and CUR systems to document and promote optimum bed availability and usage
Person specification
Qualifications and Education
* Appropriate NMC Registration
* Diploma or Degree in Nursing
* Evidence of continuous professional development or development in areas of specialty
* Management Qualification
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant post registration experience within an acute hospital Trust
* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge
* Knowledge of Health Policies, the changing NHS and Emergency Access targets
* Experience in the development of protocols and clinical audit
* Evidence of relevant involvement in meeting the Trust clinical governance objective
* Knowledge of Emergency Clinical Quality Standards
* Experience of working within other areas of nursing
* Understanding of implications of National Targets, in particular four-hour Emergency Department Standard and relevant bed management
* Understanding of issues and complexities around patient flow
* Major Incident Management and Business Continuity awareness
