Reference 2026-178441 Position description Domain Production Job field / Job profile Industrial engineering - Assembly processes engineering Job title Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Process (Metrology) Employment type Permanent Professional category Professional, Engineer & Manager Part time / Full time Full-time Job description The Senior Manufacturing Engineer acts as the technical lead for a defined manufacturing domain or process, providing expert support, coaching and escalation for Manufacturing Engineers and Operations teams. The role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes-ensuring safety, efficiency, quality, cost-effectiveness and compliance with regulatory and industrial standards. The domain specialises in the design, development and implementation of logistics, packaging, preservation and material handling solutions to optimise quality and delivery of the production facility. - Senior authority for metrology, dimensional control and measurement systems. - Define and optimise measuring strategies (CMM, laser tracker, scanning, vision systems). - Own capability, accuracy and compliance of measurement systems. - Approve inspection plans, MSA, gauge R\&R, uncertainty analysis. - Lead development and deployment of SPC strategies for measurement processes, including key characteristic monitoring and sampling plans. - Resolve complex dimensional variation problems and lead metrology technology introduction Leadership & Collaboration - Lead cross-functional teams to resolve dimensional issues affecting quality or flow. - Primary interface for Engineering/Quality/Programmes on metrology matters. - Represent site metrology capability during audits and customer reviews. - Mentor engineers, inspectors and CMM programmers. - Engage with metrology OEMs, institutes and suppliers. Governance & Standards - Ensure compliance with EN9100/AS9100, GD\&T, calibration standards and customer dimensional requirements. - Own configuration for measurement programs, probing strategies and inspection datasets. - Senior approver for dimensional deviations and concessions. - Lead audits of calibration systems, measurement methods and SPC/variation-control processes. - Ensure adherence to site-wide rules for SPC data integrity, traceability and OCAP (Out-of-Control Action Plans). Innovation & CI (Continuous Improvement) - Define metrology technology roadmap: scanning, automation, model-based definition. - Lead CI projects to reduce dimensional defects and measurement cycle time. - Implement advanced metrology systems (robot-mounted probing, inline inspection, digital twins). - Drive adoption of digital SPC dashboards, automated trend analysis and predictive analytics. - Champion closed-loop manufacturing where measurement feedback adjusts machining/assembly processes in real time. Financial Accountability - Develop CAPEX cases for metrology equipment, scanning systems and automation. - Influence calibration/measurement capability investment planning. - Lead CI reducing scrap, rework and measurement cycle time. (benefits, specificities, etc.) Risk & Readiness - Lead risk assessments for measurement systems and critical dimensional characteristics. - Approve PFMEAs, Control Plans and key characteristic strategies focused on dimensional stability. - Identify SPC-related risks, including capability shortfalls and calibration system weaknesses. - Validate measurement system readiness including SPC capability (Cpk/Ppk), uncertainty studies and gage performance. - Drive corrective actions where SPC reveals instability or drift in dimensional processes People Management (if applicable to level) - Mentor CMM programmers, inspectors and metrology engineers. - Deliver training on GD\&T, measurement systems and metrology tools. - Support competency development for inspection teams. Candidate skills & requirements - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related engineering field - Demonstrable experience in manufacturing engineering, ideally in a regulated industry. - Strong skills in CAD, CAM, and process simulation tools - Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies - Experience with ERP/MRP/MES systems and manufacturing documentation (e.g., BOMs, routers) - Proven project management skills - Experience of working within a complex and dynamic component manufacturing engineering environment with NPI and or continuous improvement experience preferred - Recognised within technical field - Experience of deploying APQP standards and tools - Experience of assembly manufacturing processes - Experience of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic products. - Experience of reading engineering drawings and understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) - Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in mechanical, electronics or production engineering - Good analytical approach to problem solving - Ability to plan and prioritise work effectively to completion - Ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels - Proven experience in leading technical support team, product investigations and engaging with multi- functional problem-solving workshops - Approachable and able to build team engagement - Energetic, strong influencer, pragmatic and results driven - Able to think strategically and see the bigger picture - Ability to build strong relationships with team members, stakeholders and customers (internal / external) - An ability to produce concise reports and effective presentations. - Computer Literate (MS Office). - Must be able to lead and work effectively with a multi-disciplined team to tight deadlines - Ability to understand, read and write English Position location Job location Europe, UK, England, London City (-ies) Pitstone
