Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Charge Nurse within our Community CAMHS pan-Ayrshire team.
This post will be based within the North Ayrshire locality team at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran CAMHS provide a specialist mental health service for children and young people age 5 18 years presenting with a range of mental health conditions and development disorders. If you have a genuine interest in working within CAMHS then this is an excellent opportunity to join a forward thinking dynamic multidisciplinary team. We are inviting applicants with a first level clinical professional qualification for the Band 6 Community CAMHS Charge Nurse role to be part of an innovative service and we are offering the opportunity to shape the delivery of mental health treatment for the young people and their families within Ayrshire and Arran.
The team will work alongside the CAMHS Urgent Assessment and Intensive Treatment team and CAMHS Neuro team to provide a seamless service whilst maintaining close links with, Skye House (adolescent inpatient), Woodland View (AMH hospital) to facilitate timely admission and discharge from inpatient services.
Hours:
36 Hours as per Reduced Working Week
This post is offered on a permanent basis.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
UK Driving Licence:
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What you will do:
You will work closely with the CAMHS team leaders in providing mental health assessment, risk assessment and evidenced based treatment to children and young people with a variety of mental health and neuro-developmental presentations.
You will provide supervision to band 5 nurses and be responsible for supporting band 5s learning, development and attendance in collaboration with the Team Leader in keeping with Turas Appraisals and Promoting attendance policy.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:
You should have evidence of significant post registration professional practice and experience at band 5 level with a first level RMN or RNLD qualification, in CAMHS or relevant community mental health/Learning disability setting to undertake and fulfil the key areas for this post.
We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic, motivated and who provide treatment to young people who may have multiple and complex needs. You must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have experience in risk assessment and risk management.
You should have knowledge of mental health legislation, Child protection process, GIRFEC, One for Scotland policy and the CAMHS Specification.
You will be supported by the Team Leader in undertaking this role.
