Job Introduction
As a community Phlebotomist you’ll be expected to perform phlebotomy duties as directed by the GP and other Community Services, give appropriate advice to patients undergoing blood tests and maintain clear, contemporaneous records. You will care for patients and their families in the best way, delivering our high service standards, sharing best practice and actively improving our work. This role is 24 hours a week, working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A valid driving licence and access to a car are required.
Responsibilities
* To deal with patients who are having blood samples taken in a professional and courteous manner.
* To report any problems to the Team Leader or GP for advice or remedial action.
* To maintain confidentiality at all times.
* To maintain accuracy of patient identification on blood bottles.
* Ensure that contemporaneous records are maintained.
* Ensure that patients’ confidentiality is maintained and that Caldicott principles are adhered to.
* Maintain standards of care in line with clinical policies and procedures.
* To take responsibility for personal protection and safe working environment.
* Act in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act.
* Ensure that incidents are reported in a timely manner.
* To adhere to HCRG care group policies and procedures.
* Participate in clinical supervision.
* Attend Mandatory study days.
Qualifications
Previous experience in phlebotomy and completion of a structured theoretical and practical assessment on venipuncture. Ability to travel across a wide geographical area – applicants must be a car driver/owner. Strong communication and organisational skills, flexible approach and ability to deliver positive experiences to patients.
