Hospital Optometrist – Head of Service
Location: NHS Scotland – The National Treatment Centre, Highland, Inverness.
Role: Band 8C (0.55 wte) Optometrist jointly leading the Department with the existing Head of Service (Band 8C 0.45 wte). Deliver specialist optometry clinics within the centre and across Highland, Orkney and Western Isles, in partnership with ophthalmology, orthoptic and nursing colleagues.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and deliver specialist optometry clinics within the Hospital Eye Service.
* Collaborate with ophthalmology, orthoptic and nursing colleagues to provide integrated eye care.
* Support and develop the optometry team, including staff training and performance review.
* Coordinate clinical services to peripheral areas such as Wick, Portree, Fort William and island communities.
* Travel as required to remote sites, including overnight stays.
* Maintain high standards of quality and patient safety.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of 4 years post‑qualification experience and at least 2 years in a Hospital Eye Service.
* Proven managerial and leadership skills within an eye care setting.
* Active post‑graduate activities and relevant postgraduate qualifications.
* Qualified independent prescriber (IP).
* Registered with the General Optical Council as an Optometrist.
* Valid driving licence for travel.
