Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Professional

We are looking for people with excellent assessment and communication skills who perform well under pressure. The role of the Mental Health professional in Liaison is fast‑paced and dynamic. The team provides daytime input into the Emergency Department and General Hospital Wards, delivering high‑caliber assessments, formulations, and care plans for individuals. We provide an invaluable expert opinion into the care of those in hospital.

An essential aspect of this post is the ability to foster excellent relationships with our acute hospital colleagues and to communicate best practice with regard to mental health care.


Main duties of the job

* Assist in the delivery of a high‑quality Liaison Psychiatry service within Hinchingbrooke Hospital in keeping with the values of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.
* Provide and undertake timely biopsychosocial assessments and risk management plans in accordance with CPFT’s Clinical Risk Assessment and Management policy for adults presenting to the Emergency Department and Hospital Ward inpatients with mental health problems.
* Promote a safe and effective service throughout the hospital through training and giving expert advice and support to nursing and medical teams within the Emergency Department and wards.
* Maintain a visible, professional presence where patients, carers and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support.
* As part of the Liaison Psychiatry Service, contribute to the multidisciplinary clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the service in collaboration with other team members.
* Participate in and promote close links with community mental health teams and other agencies to develop effective care plans.


Person Specification


Education/Qualifications

* Experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse.
* Evidence of relevant post‑registration training and development.
* Independent and supplementary Prescriber.
* Recognised training qualification.


Experience

* Community and in‑patient experience in mental health services.
* Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk.
* Experience in the planning and delivery of training and practice developments to staff.
* Experience of effective collaborative working.
* Evidence of ability to drive for results.
* Evidence of experience in service evaluation and improvements.
* Evidence of interdisciplinary / multi‑agency working experience.
* Clinical audits and research.


Skills/Abilities

* Commitment to high quality care and service provision.
* Competent IT skills including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively, meeting expected deadlines.
* Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills.
* Advanced interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of professionals.
* Ability to influence others effectively.
* Ability to work autonomously and effectively under pressure.
* High level of self‑awareness, recognising own strengths and limitations.
* Ability to manage change and deal with conflict or stressful situations.
* Ability to produce and present clear reports.
* Advanced understanding of the mental health needs of adults.
* Specialist knowledge of person‑centred care and its application.
* Specialist knowledge of psycho‑social interventions and their appropriate use.
* Specialist knowledge of medication and the monitoring of its effect.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of appropriate assessment scales.
* Good knowledge of the policies and guidelines pertinent to the planning and delivery of care to adults with mental health needs.
* Awareness of the impact of the health economies on service planning and delivery.
* Knowledge of the recovery principles and their application to adults.
