The Youth Justice Service (YJS) is looking for a YJS Early Help Practitioner to lead on our Turnaround project. The term is currently fixed for a period of 6 months from October 1st 2025 to March 31st 2026.

The successful candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined YJS team which includes Managers, Social Workers, Caseworkers, Victim Liaison Officer, Speech & Language Therapist, CAMHS Worker and seconded Police & Probation Officers.
The role will involve hybrid working which will see the worker engaging with children, young people and their families in the office environment, in school and at home.
There will be a requirement to engage young people and their families in order to gather information and complete written assessments which you will then analyse before preparing a targeted intervention plan.
The aim of the role will be to combat antisocial behaviour and reduce the number of children and young people entering the criminal justice system through the offer of key areas of support and the delivery of preventative interventions.
The successful candidate will also provide support to young people to enable them to build on their individual strengths and capabilities in order to develop their pro-social identify for positive outcomes and sustainable desistance, with an emphasis to work closely with schools.
Targeted outcomes will include improving school attendance, creating strong and resilient parents and families, who can manage children's behaviour plus a reduction in the number of re-referrals into Children's Social Care services.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
