The purpose of the role is to ensure customer satisfaction through product conformance to engineering standards and processes. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for engineering and administering manufacturing processes and equipment. The role involves working within a cross-functional team throughout the entire manufacturing project lifecycle, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement activities with production cells.
Responsibilities
1. Develop engine build and test processes.
2. Resolve production process issues.
3. Diagnose downtime concerns and develop solutions.
4. Understand and develop Aria and operator-guided systems.
5. Assess engine data, identify faults, and approve or reject engines for shipping.
6. Create rework proposals based on test data, including containment actions and concessions.
7. Develop engine test processes.
8. Identify and eliminate sources of waste.
9. Manage and prioritize workload for engineers.
10. Interface with customers as needed.
11. Develop specifications for new equipment, tools, or services.
12. Mentor less experienced engineers to become outstanding Build Engineers.
13. Oversee project execution concerning schedule, budget, and technical objectives.
14. Contribute to strategic decisions affecting engine build operations.
15. Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards.
16. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
17. Evaluate and optimize manufacturing systems using lean principles.
18. Create and maintain process documentation (Process Sheets, FMEA, Process Flow, APQP).
19. Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to ensure best practices.
20. Support supplier and internal assessments against industry standards.
21. Conduct internal process audits and implement remedial actions.
22. Develop repair and rework schemes, including containment and concessions.
23. Lead or participate in problem-solving activities using approved tools and techniques.
24. Work in an IATF16949 environment, upholding quality standards.
25. Travel within the UK and abroad for supplier/customer visits.
26. Perform other duties as required to meet departmental or company objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
* 5+ years' experience in automotive or related industry (desired).
* Innovative, team-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers.
* Experience in technical leadership roles.
* Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* HND or Degree in Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred).
* Industry-recognized apprenticeship.
* Six Sigma Green Belt, proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
* Knowledge of GD&T and 2D drawings.
* Experience with APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC.
Additional Information
Autocraft Machining Solutions, part of Autocraft Solutions Group, operates a 7,000 sqm site in Wellingborough with high-volume engine machining and testing capabilities for a UK car manufacturer.
Hours: Alternating shifts, Monday to Friday, 5:45 am to 2:15 pm and 1:45 pm to 10:15 pm.
