Senior Manager – System Optimisation
Base Location: Flexible Scotland – you must be based at one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, e.g., Glasgow or Perth.
Salary: £66,100 – £99,100 + car/car allowance + performance‑related bonus + benefits.
Working Pattern: Permanent, Full Time, Flexible First options available.
The role
SSEN Transmission seeks a Senior Manager – System Optimisation to spearhead development and implementation of strategies that optimise the delivery of the transmission network, ensuring economic efficiency, system reliability, and compliance with industry standards. The role involves leading a team focused on power system modelling, constraint management, and digital transformation to support the low‑carbon transition.
You will
* Maintain awareness of policy, industry, technology, market, and global factors impacting SSEN Transmission by consulting with stakeholders and recommending changes.
* Develop and manage optimisation frameworks for network topology, energisation sequencing, and constraint management, pioneering advanced power system studies using tools such as PSS®E and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
* Build and maintain network models to forecast constraint costs, assess operability, and produce reports on optimisation interventions, curtailment impacts, and system performance.
* Support automation and data analytics to enhance optimisation processes and improve network efficiency.
* Ensure compliance with the Network Planning Framework, Security and Quality of Supply Standard, System Operator Transmission Owner Code, and other regulatory codes.
You have
* A degree‑level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field with proven experience leading teams to deliver complex, high‑quality outcomes in the electricity networks sector.
* Expertise in progressive techno‑economic assessments and constraint management strategies, including identifying assumptions and recommending robust investment cases.
* Current knowledge of the UK electricity industry, Net Zero opportunities, and relevant codes and standards, statutory and license obligations; ability to develop strategies that ensure economic efficiency, system reliability, and regulatory compliance.
* Background in power system modelling and analysis, proficiency in data analytics and automation (Python, APIs) to drive innovation in network outage planning and operational efficiency.
* Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrable experience building influential stakeholder relationships and ensuring alignment with industry codes and standards.
