Rail Systems Deployment & Maintenance Specialist
Based Eynsham, Oxfordshire with UK & international travel
Our client is seeking a Rail Systems Deployment and Maintenance Specialist to support the deployment, commissioning, and ongoing performance of rail-based survey and data capture systems. This is a hands-on technical role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with complex equipment, problem-solving in the field, and collaborating across technical and operational teams.
You’ll act as a key link between survey/data capture teams and systems/logistics teams, ensuring equipment is fully prepared, tested, and performing at its best—both before deployment and on site.
What you’ll be doing
Equipment Preparation & Testing
* Prepare, configure, and calibrate survey and data capture equipment to project specifications
* Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), documenting results and resolving issues
* Maintain testing records, configuration details, and performance logs
Installation & Commissioning
* Support the planning and execution of system deployments
* Install and mount equipment onto rail platforms and other survey vehicles
* Conduct Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and on-site commissioning
* Support system integration activities in live environments
Customer Liaison & Field Support
* Act as a technical point of contact during installation and commissioning
* Provide on-site support to ensure smooth operation and customer confidence
* Deliver basic equipment operation training when required
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
* Diagnose and resolve equipment faults using structured fault-finding techniques
* Coordinate repairs with suppliers and internal technical teams
* Manage equipment inventory and system configuration records
* Support demobilisation, preventative maintenance, and return logistics
Beyond the day-to-day
* Create and maintain technical reference materials and system documentation
* Contribute to standard operating procedures and test protocols
* Mentor junior technical staff and share best practices
* Progress your technical capability toward future R&D involvement
What we’re looking for
Essential
* Practical experience with electronic equipment, instrumentation, or technical systems
* Ability to troubleshoot device communications (e.g. RS232/RS422) and Windows networking
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
* Methodical approach to testing and documentation
* Confident communicator with customer-facing experience
* Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable
* Experience with survey equipment, sensors, or data acquisition systems
* Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes
* Background in electronics, engineering, or instrumentation
* Rail industry experience or awareness
* Field service, installation, or project/logistics experience
* Ability to work independently for extended periods
Working environment
* Mix of workshop, office, and field-based work
* Regular travel to client sites, with occasional overnight stays
* Some work on or near operational railway infrastructure (full training provided)
* Occasional work outside standard hours to meet project and client needs
