This role is for an ECU Manager within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) and act as strategic lead for the management of financial investigations, ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Lead and develop two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, providing strong leadership, motivation, development, performance oversight and delivery management.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence senior stakeholders and align the Environment Agency’s priorities with external enforcement partners.
* Support the wider organisation in improving workflows and increasing understanding of POCA, share lessons learned, contribute to changes in technical documentation, and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Work with the two ECU teams (Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigations) which comprise Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts, within a nationally dispersed team.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model,
o Communicating effectively including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders,
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload,
o Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices,
o Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.

This is a hybrid working role with flexible work arrangements from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is a central part of our work, and you may be asked to take on an incident role or provide business continuity support during incidents (this may attract an additional payment). Training and workplace adjustments will be provided as needed.
