About the role
Youth Justice Services is a multi-disciplinary team working to provide an evidence based responsive service to young people and their families when they come into contact with the youth justice system. It aims to reduce antisocial behaviour, strengthen interagency partnerships and prevent likelihood of further escalation through the youth justice system.
Senior Youth Justice Officers (SYJO) case manage young people who offend subject to community supervision orders, and young people at risk of offending, with the aim of reducing re-offending, protecting of the community and directing young people towards the adoption of law-abiding lifestyles and thus helping to create safer communities.
Senior Youth Justice Officers have involvement with the young person’s family by actively engaging with them and assisting them to engage with the courts, external program providers and other Government agencies to facilitate the successful management and social development of young people.
Senior Youth Justice Officers may also be required to co-ordinate Juvenile Justice Team and Court Conferencing referrals from both the Police and the Court. They are required to undertake Family Group Conferencing, as well as coordinate and monitor subsequent action plans. In addition to the above statutory requirements, SYJOs may work with young people who wish for assistance/support and who are not on supervision orders.
Senior Youth Justice Officers provide mentoring and support to other Youth Justice Services staff and represent Youth Justice Services in the community.
Eligibility
Special conditions:
Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
