Neonatal Nurse

Neonatal Staff Nurse Band 5 or Neonatal Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6 – Full time (37.5 hours) and part time hours available.
Our Neonatal unit has 18 cots, comprising 2 intensive cots, 4 high dependency cots and 12 special care cots. We are a designated Local Neonatal Unit (Level 2), providing excellent care for preterm babies from 27 weeks’ gestation and for sick newborn babies. We provide stabilisation for babies born at lower gestations prior to transfer to tertiary units by a designated network transport team.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for experienced Neonatal nurses to join an enthusiastic, friendly, motivated multidisciplinary team whose focus is on the baby and family. We are committed to delivering the highest standard of care to our babies and their families. You will be joining a team that work a variety of shifts including internal rotation to night duty. Opportunities exist for personal development and staff are supported to undertake additional training as required. We also offer a well‑received programme of simulation training sessions which develop knowledge and skills in neonatal practices.
Numerous professional development opportunities exist for our Neonatal Nurses to develop skills in leadership in areas such as quality improvement, research, outreach, dedicated transitional care, family integrated care, BFI, education and training (we run 4 NLS courses a year in Swindon) and risk and governance.
Job responsibilities
We are looking to recruit Neonatal Nurses who are enthusiastic, forward‑thinking, compassionate and caring to complement our ever‑expanding innovative team. We are also looking for Band 6 Senior Neonatal Nurses who lead the shift on a day‑to‑day basis as a supernumerary shift coordinator. They are responsible for leading the nursing team ensuring the babies and their parents are at the centre of everything we do. They uphold standards and are a role model to ensure quality of care is delivered to babies across the multidisciplinary team.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Band 6)
* Registered Midwife
* Practising Midwife
* Maintained an up‑to‑date professional portfolio
* Training in management of obstetric emergencies
* Valid Driving Licence
* To have obtained or be studying to degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience)
Experience (Band 6)
* Recent experience in all aspects of midwifery practice.
* Competencies relevant to sphere of practice.
* Experience within UK maternity services.
* Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills.
* Experience of mentoring students.
Qualifications (Band 5)
* Registered Midwife
* Current NMC Registration
* To have obtained or be studying to degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience)
Experience (Band 5)
* Experience within UK maternity services.
* Midwifery experience gained through training.
* Ability to use flexible, innovative approaches to practice which are tailored to meet the individual needs of the clients.
