Clinical Psychologist (Audiology) - Part time 7.5 h/w

The role of a clinical psychologist within Audiology is one which is not widely known. There is already a strong emphasis on patient-centred and holistic care throughout the Audiological pathways, however the input of a clinical psychologist is important in driving this foreword. This is, therefore, quite a unique opportunity to work within a team where the ethos aligns to provide a supportive and collaborative environment.

The department at RBFT is one which tries to enable the best possible clinical practice with regular learning and development encouraged throughout the team. We participate in internal and external research, teaching and training as well as peer review, supervision and policy/protocol development when-ever possible.

This role is involved in all areas of Audiology patients whether they are from Paediatrics, Adults Rehabilitation, Hearing Therapy or Balance. The role has evolved over the years so please contact us if you are interested and wish to learn more about the department or role itself.


Main duties of the job

To offer psychological support and intervention for individuals presenting with Audiological problems. Typical problems include tinnitus, hyperacusis, and complex balance/vestibular disorders (PPPD/Meniere's etc).

To offer a comprehensive psychological assessment and if appropriate treatment to patients with audiological related problems who are referred internally from the Audiology Service. Primary objectives include:

* Supporting patients come to terms with a new or difficult diagnosisSupporting patients in coming to terms with the long term implications or effects of their diagnosis.
* Reducing or assisting the patient in managing the impact of of an audiological concern.
* Supervision/education of other members of the Audiological team or associated professionals.
* Input of your specialist knowledge/skills into research or non-patient facing activity.

Person Specification


Education

* Post-graduate Doctoral level qualification in clinical Psychology (or equivalent for those trained pre 1996)
* Post-qualification experience of clinical practice with a high degree of autonomy


Experience

* Experience with individual work, families and indirect work through MDT colleagues or other carers
* Experience of clinical work in a relevant setting


Skills

* Ability to reflect on all aspects of work undertaken and use supervision to develop clinical skills
* Demonstrate skills and interest in working across the lifespan
* A thorough knowledge of psychological theory and practice, an interest in how people think and behave
* Ability to relate to a wide range of people including patients and colleagues
* Ability to undertake clinical research consistent with clinical caseload at a doctoral level

£53,755 to £60,504 a yearper annum, pro rata.
