Job Overview
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking eye care team comprising 4 Orthoptists and 6 Consultant Ophthalmologists.
We are looking to appoint a highly specialist Optometrist to provide the paediatric optometry service within BCUHB West.
The post holder will work with the Orthoptic team at Ysbyty Gwynedd to deliver specialist paediatric eye care and give expert optometric advice to paediatric patients and their families.
To undertake detailed refraction, fundus and media checks and provide appropriate prescription for suitable spectacles.
To make patient-centred judgements on management in the presence of uncertainty, for example where patients are unable to cooperate fully in clinical assessments.
To plan and implement treatment plans with the Orthoptists for paediatric patients using clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and following departmental guidelines.
Main duties of the job
To deliver high quality optometry services in line with professional guidelines in the following areas:
* Paediatric Optometry and joint Orthoptic/Optometry clinics – assessing complex orthoptic cases referred from Orthoptists and jointly managing their care throughout the duration of treatment.
* To work as an autonomous practitioner, making clinical decisions using his/her own judgement and initiative.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
