Health & Safety Advisor (Temporary – Part-Time)
Must hold an Enhanced DBS check / or be on the update service
£200 per day Umbrella
3 days per week
Initial 3-month assignment
Based in Kent
An established education provider is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support their Estates & Facilities function on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable H&S professional to provide guidance, undertake reviews, and ensure ongoing compliance across a busy and diverse environment.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for reviewing and updating all Health & Safety processes, policies and risk assessments, ensuring they meet current legislation and best practice. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will act as the subject matter expert for all H&S matters, providing practical advice and helping to maintain a safe environment for staff, students, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and update Health & Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments
* Advise senior leaders on statutory compliance and H&S matters
* Conduct regular site inspections and audits
* Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring appropriate reporting and follow-up
* Deliver Health & Safety training and staff inductions (e.g., fire safety, manual handling, first aid awareness)
* Monitor fire safety systems, evacuation procedures and H&S equipment
* Liaise with external agencies and contractors as required
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation
* Support and promote safeguarding best practice across all activities
Person Specification
Essential:
* NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent)
* Strong, demonstrable experience in Health & Safety roles
* Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and best practice
* Experience conducting inspections, audits and risk assessments
* Strong communication, organisational and IT skills
* Ability to work independently and use initiative
* Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe working environment
Desirable:
* Experience within an education setting
* Knowledge of CDM regulations
* First Aid at Work certificate
