Assistant Service Manager
1. Location: Petworth, West Sussex
2. Salary: £42,000 - £48,000 per annum OTE (based on experience)
3. Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm (1-hour unpaid lunch) + occasional weekend work
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Service Manager to join a well-established and reputable agricultural machinery business in Petworth, West Sussex. This role is ideal for an experienced professional in the agricultural or a related industry, or a skilled technician looking to step into a managerial role, with a passion for delivering exceptional service and supporting a dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities:
4. Support the Service Manager in the day-to-day operations of the service department, including managing bookings and workshop activities.
5. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, addressing concerns and ensuring timely updates.
6. Assist in driving revenue growth through effective upselling and customer retention strategies.
7. Monitor and maintain Work In Progress (WIP) at manageable levels, optimising callout schedules.
8. Identify and implement improvements to aftersales processes to enhance operational efficiency.
9. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to optimise departmental performance.
10. Collaborate with the parts department to ensure availability and efficient time management.
11. Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
12. Oversee service department administration and processes.
13. Mentor and support technicians, particularly apprentices and trainees, to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Key Requirements:
14. Proven experience in a similar managerial role within the agricultural, automotive, or a transferable industry, or as an experienced technician ready to step into management.
15. Excellent communication skills to liaise with customers, engineers, and colleagues.
16. Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
17. High level of organisation and attention to detail.
18. Understanding of agricultural machinery and the seasonal pressures of the industry.
19. Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines.
20. Positive, motivated, and team-oriented approach.
21. Full UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 licence beneficial but not essential).
