Overview
As a Structural Engineer, you thrive on solving complex problems and bringing designs to life. You have a passion for structural design, particularly in the built environment, and over the years you’ve built strong relationships with clients — from architects and main contractors to local authorities.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and Analysis: Deliver high-quality structural designs for buildings across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
* Project Delivery: Manage projects from concept through to completion — including feasibility studies, detailed design, and site support — ensuring work is delivered on time, on budget, and to the required quality.
* Client and Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise closely with architects, contractors, developers, and local authorities to develop effective design solutions and maintain strong professional relationships.
* Technical Reporting: Prepare structural calculations, design reports, specifications, and drawings for submission to clients and approving authorities.
* Site Inspections and Surveys: Undertake structural inspections, surveys, and assessments of existing and listed buildings, and provide clear technical recommendations.
* Innovation and Problem-Solving: Apply creative engineering solutions to overcome design challenges while maintaining safety, functionality, and aesthetic considerations.
* Mentoring and Development: Supporting team members and contributing to a positive learning environment.
* Professional Development: Work towards Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE), supported by mentorship and structured training.
Required Skills & Experience
* A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
* 2+ years’ experience in structural design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
* Strong design skills and proficiency with relevant software (e.g., Tekla, Tedds, AutoCAD, Revit).
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
* A proactive and collaborative mindset, with strong problem solving ability.
* Ambition to achieve Chartered status (MICE or MIStructE) – full support provided.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and clarity.
* Organisational skills for managing drawing revisions and document control.
* Good communication skills for coordinating with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders.
* Willingness to attend site visits and surveys.
