Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, friendly, and highly motivated Receptionist to join our team.
This is a permanent post for 38 hours per week.
Previous experience in an administrative or receptionist role is essential.
Main duties of the job
* Answer calls, book appointments, and handle patient queries.
* Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive, friendly image to patients and visitors, in person or via telephone.
Additional responsibilities
* Maintain thorough knowledge of practice procedures and work according to protocols.
* Ensure efficient reception service and handle all enquiries and appointment scheduling.
* Make routine appointments and contact patients for QoF, Chronic Disease Management, and other routine services.
* Manage telephone communications, including diverting calls and taking messages accurately.
* Record requests for home visits and refer to duty doctor as needed.
* Process repeat prescription requests, ensuring readiness within 48 hours.
* Inform patients of charges for private services, accept payments, and issue receipts.
* Register new patients promptly and accurately onto the computer system.
* Handle patient notes and correspondence, ensuring proper filing and record maintenance.
* Assist with administrative tasks such as emailing, photocopying, and general office duties.
About us
We are a friendly, welcoming practice with a patient list of 15,000. Staff work across both Ferryhill & Chilton practices. We cover Enhanced Access sessions in the evenings and on some Fridays and Saturdays.
Job responsibilities

* Maintaining knowledge of practice procedures and protocols.
* Providing effective reception services and managing patient enquiries and appointments.
* Handling urgent patient consultations with good judgment.
* Registering new patients and managing correspondence and records.
* Ensuring the security and confidentiality of patient information.
* Supporting health & safety, equality, diversity, and personal development initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
Experience
* Experience working in a GP practice.
