Job Title: SEN Teacher (with Maths Specialism)

Location: Bishop Auckland, County Durham

Salary: £32,718 – 43,014 per annum

Contract Type: Full time, Permanent

Who you are reporting to: Headteacher / Senior Leadership Team

Purpose of the role

To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. The Teacher will model professional integrity and the EPIC values, work collaboratively within the school community, and adhere strictly to the Staff Code of Conduct to promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment.

You would be working with a primary model so they would be expected to pick up other subjects such as science PSHE Citizenship, careers albeit at a fairly low level. Our Young people also usually have EHCP's and can be very challenging.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning

* Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND and trauma histories.

* Use assessment data to monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

* Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development through trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.

* Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.

* Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support.

2. Professional Conduct and Collaboration

* Model professional behaviour, respectful communication, and integrity in line with the Staff Code of Conduct.

* Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external agencies to support pupil development.

* Participate actively in professional development, reflective practice, and school improvement initiatives.

* Engage in professional dialogue and share best practice to enhance teaching quality.

* The postholder will actively promote and embed the EPIC values (Excellence, Passion, Integrity, Caring) in all aspects of their work.

3. Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing

* Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, reporting concerns promptly and following school procedures.

* Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that supports pupil wellbeing and resilience.

* Recognise and respond appropriately to pupils’ emotional and behavioural needs.

* Ensure compliance with Independent School Standards (Parts 3 and 5) and all relevant health and safety regulations.

4. Administrative and Organisational Duties

* Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, attendance, and behaviour.

* Prepare and contribute to reports, meetings, and reviews as required.

* Manage classroom resources effectively.
