Operations Manager – New Build Energy from Waste Power Station

Up to £80,000 + bonus up to 20% + benefits
Overview
This is a key leadership role within the operations team during the final construction, commissioning and transition into full commercial operation of a new energy‑from‑waste power station. The role will shape operational performance, embed standards, and ensure the safe, compliant and efficient running of the facility from day one.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the Operations Department, including Shift Team Leaders, Plant Operators and Outside Operators
* Drive safe, compliant and efficient plant operations in line with environmental permit requirements
* Work closely with the HSEQ Manager to ensure full understanding and adherence to site procedures and regulatory standards
* Monitor plant performance, identify trends and report operational KPIs to senior stakeholders
* Ensure full compliance with Environmental Agency and National Grid requirements
* Conduct performance reviews, appraisals and ongoing coaching of operations staff
* Deputise for the Plant Manager during absence or leave periods
Candidate Requirements
* Proven experience in a Shift Team Leader, or Operations Manager role within power generation (EfW, biomass, coal or CCGT backgrounds considered)
* HNC/ONC/BTEC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline – Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or similar
* Strong understanding of plant operations, process safety and commercial drivers
* Working knowledge of environmental compliance and regulatory frameworks within the EfW/waste sector
* Experience managing or contributing to operational budgets (desirable)
* NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (desirable)
Package
* Basic salary up to £76,000
* Local allowance circa £4,694
* Bonus up to 20%
