is seeking a
Level 1 Database Developer/Administrator
to assist in maintaining our PostgreSQL database infrastructure. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience and training in database operations, with opportunities to grow into more advanced positions.
You will work closely with senior technical staff, supporting daily operations and learning best practices in database administration, query development, and IT support. This role is ideal for someone with a foundation in databases and IT who is eager to learn, grow, and develop into a specialist role.
The Role
As a Level 1 Database Developer/Administrator, you will assist in monitoring and maintaining our production PostgreSQL systems. You will support senior colleagues with query writing, access controls, backups, and troubleshooting, while building your knowledge of database administration and Linux environments.
This role also includes broader IT support duties, giving you exposure to infrastructure, security, and system administration tasks. You will receive mentoring, guidance, and opportunities to expand your technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in monitoring database systems to ensure performance and availability, addressing basic issues as they arise.
* Write and optimise basic SQL queries to support simple business needs.
* Support disaster recovery processes, including scheduling and testing database backups.
* Troubleshoot straightforward database issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
* Provide general IT support, including user account management, hardware/software troubleshooting, and assisting with infrastructure tasks.
* Maintain up-to-date documentation of systems, configurations, and processes.
* Contribute to the creation and maintenance of basic documentation related to database operations and IT support tasks.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills
* Basic knowledge of databases (ideally PostgreSQL or SQL Server)
* Strong willingness to learn database administration in a Linux environment
* Familiarity with SQL query writing
* Understanding of fundamental IT security practices
* Analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work methodically with guidance from senior staff
Desirable Extras
* Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related subject
* Exposure to Linux server administration
* Certifications in IT, SQL, or databases
