The salary range for this position is based on experience level ranging from $114,332 to $142,916.Responsible for Substation designs including but not limited to protection engineering for major capital projects in New York (NYSEG and RG&E), this includes input into standards and training needs. The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5,600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations.. This position is responsible to lead and guide all engineering activities for electric transmission and substation system protection projects within the Powering New York portfolio. Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the project manager.**Key Responsibilities*** Capital project engineering execution with a focus on substation design, protection and control systems, system studies, automation, integration, and settings including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.* Perform standard and complex electrical engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches.* Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.* Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers.* Solve unique and complex electrical engineering problems.* Analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering.* Ensure all substation engineering designs implemented by the company’s projects meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, and NY PSC, etc.) .* Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.* Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department.* Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills.* Ability to collaborate across departments* Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards and best practices* Work independently with little supervision**Required Qualifications*** Required Education: + Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology + Or Associated Degree with more than 20 years relevant experience in energy industry required. + A minimum of 7+ years of technical experience in protection engineering or related field* Technical Skills/Competencies + Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization) + Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.") + Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation + Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others - to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements + Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment # Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements* General Skills: + Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems, + Proven ability to lead and manage projects, + Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts, + Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies. + Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms. + General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment. + Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management. + Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels + Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions + Awareness and understanding of key business drivers + Ability to devise solutions to both to common and complex problems/challenges. + Where appropriate, technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment. + Where required, knowledge of: - Construction and maintenance standards in accordance with regulatory requirements -Engineering standards and specifications up to 345kV - Engineering standards and specifications up to 345kV* Routine Technical Skills: + Physical Substation Design – Expert + Protection System Design – Expert + Project Scoping and Estimating - Expert + Equipment Specifications - Expert + Construction and Outage Sequencing - Expert + Commissioning - Expert + AC/DC Loading Calculations - Expert + Codes, Standards, and Regulations - Expert* Unique Technical Skills: + Substation Protection - Expert/Competent1 + Transmission Protection- Expert/Competent1 + Automation & Integration System Design - Expert/Competent1 + Communication System Design- Expert/Competent1 + Fault/Transient Analysis- Expert/Competent1 + Insulation Coordination- Expert/Competent1 + Substation Equipment Commissioning - Expert/Competent1 + IEC61850 and Process Bus - Expert/Competent1* Note 1: 3 of the unique technical skills listed above must be at the Expert level.**Preferred Qualifications*** Professional Engineering License Preferred**Competencies*** Growth & Continuous Improvement* Initiative & Change* Focused on Results* Customer Centric (internal and/or external)* Communication* Collaboration* Leadership (people managers/leaders)**Disclaimer**AVANGRID is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
