About the role Please consider applying to join us in a new glaciology research group at Imperial, to study beautiful and fascinating phenomena and (optionally) conduct fieldwork in Alaska and Antarctica! We are recruiting two Postdoctoral Research Associates in Glaciology as part of a new five-year research programme funded by the Royal Society on Surface Hydrology on Antarctic Ice shelves. Depending on the successful candidates' expertise, the role will involve remote sensing, mathematical modelling and/or fieldwork, all aimed at increasing our understanding of how water moves across the surface of ice shelves. What you would be doing You will join a growing team of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other researchers at Imperial, The British Antarctic Survey, Northumbria University, and elsewhere. You will be responsible for conducting research within the scope of the research programme, including many aspects of ice-sheet surface hydrology ranging from small-scale observations of important phenomena, to catchment- and ice-sheet- scale observations and modelling of surface drainage systems. The successful candidates will focus on one or more of these areas using remote sensing, mathematical modelling, and/or field observations in Alaska and Antarctica. Your key responsibilities will include conducting interesting, impactful glaciological research and helping to foster a supportive and productive environment across the research group. Starting around September to November 2026 would be ideal, but these are flexible What we are looking for Two people with - a PhD in Glaciology, Geophysics, Hydrology, Physics, or a related field, - experience in mathematical modelling, satellite remote sensing, geophysical fieldwork, data analysis, potentially applied to hydrology or glaciers and ice sheets. - excellent quantitative and computational skills. - a flexible and imaginative approach to research. Note that fieldwork is NOT a requirement of these positions. If you are excited by this opportunity but, for any reason, are not able to conduct fieldwork, please consider applying! What we can offer you The opportunity to continue your career as part of a growing glaciology group at Imperial College London Connections with a wide range of project partners from across the UK, US and Canada Fieldwork opportunities A supportive, inclusive working environment Further information This is a full-time post (35 hours per week).
