Overview
Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor- West is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week) based at Bowmere Hospital, Chester. This role is part of the Mental Health Intensive Support Service and focuses on specialist assessment, treatment, interventions and support to help people recover from complex mental health problems and regain skills and confidence to live independently in the community.
Main duties of the job
* Support the MDT in providing intensive support to a small cohort of patients, delivering high quality levels of care to help patients live fulfilled and independent lives.
* Work with the Key Worker and Senior Occupational Therapist to ensure effective and adaptive patient care with a focus on recovery, identifying relapse indicators and promoting independence.
* Ensure all patients engage in the agreed care plan and assist in encouraging inclusion in local community services to promote daily living skills.
* Build rapport and an effective therapeutic relationship with patients to contribute, plan and monitor interventions and treatments under MDT supervision.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level III or equivalent in relevant subject area
* Food Hygiene training or willingness to gain within 3 months
* COSHH training or willingness to gain within 6 months
* First Aid training or willingness to gain within 6 months
Desirable criteria
* Higher level education qualifications
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential criteria
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* High level of co-ordination and organisational skills
* Basic risk assessment and risk management skills
* Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
* Computer literacy
* Basic understanding of issues affecting people with a Mental Illness or Learning Disability in a rehabilitation environment
* Basic awareness of issues affecting health & social care
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice or other therapies
* Skills and interest in using activities and interventions relevant to the post including psychoeducation, creative activities, domestic skills, horticulture, exercise
Experience
Essential criteria
* At least three years experience in a health care setting
* Experience of organising and leading individual or group therapeutic activities
* Experience of working with individuals with Learning Disabilities and/or Mental Health conditions
Desirable criteria
* Experience of rehabilitation in adult mental health
* Experience of working in the community
* Experience of delivering adult education or psychoeducation
* Experience in an Occupational Therapy team
