Stroke Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Band 6
This is a permanent, part‑time (26.25 hours per week) position for a Speech and Language Therapist specialising in stroke rehabilitation, based in Gloucestershire. The successful candidate will provide specialist therapy in community settings, working as part of a multidisciplinary stroke early supported discharge (ESD) team. The role requires a full UK driving licence and the use of an own vehicle for business travel.
Main duties
* Provide SLT assessment, diagnosis and treatment to stroke patients with communication and swallowing disorders in the community.
* Contribute to holistic management and rehabilitation of the SLT caseload as part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Support highly specialised SLT and team leads in service development, evaluation and quality initiatives.
* Assist team leads in meeting national and local standards for stroke and rehabilitation.
* Provide professional support and advice to wider multidisciplinary colleagues and students, acting as a clinical resource in stroke SLT.
Qualifications and experience
* Recognised Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists degree level qualification.
* Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Post graduate dysphagia training.
* Experience managing patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties post stroke.
* Expertise in differential diagnosis and targeted clinical interventions for stroke SLT.
* Strong auditory and perceptual assessment skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office.
* Willingness to attend mandatory and statutory training.
* Ability to work flexibly across the trust and travel locally independently.
* Strong presentation skills and baseline knowledge of counselling for the specialist area.
