Overview
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust seeks an enthusiastic BSE accredited echocardiographer to join the Heart Centre. Applications would be welcomed from echocardiographers working towards BSE accreditation and aspiring to band 7 roles. This department has a long history of supporting trainees through the accreditation process. There are more than 10 echo rooms at Royal Stoke & County Hospitals providing a full range of services including TTE, TOE, DSE, GUCH, contrast and support for structural work in interventional labs. The service also supports one-stop clinics for heart valve disease, oncology, heart failure and inherited cardiac conditions.
Main duties
The Heart Centre at UHNM provides tertiary cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services for over 2 million people across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and South Cheshire, as well as secondary care cardiology for the local population. The successful applicants will join the established consultant, nursing and technical team, and will have opportunities to participate in developing the service. The department has a track record for developing extended roles such as physiologist or scientist led heart valve surveillance clinics, Herceptin echo clinics, stress echo and TOE, and is currently developing echocardiographers within the heart failure unit. Echo sonographers at UHNM have access to health assessment training, masters level heart failure modules, attendance at international conferences and support to present and publish their work.
