Overview
The post holder will work closely with the Private Outpatient Sister and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development as part of the team. The post holder is to take charge of the clinic as required and is expected to competently carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, and to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment in keeping with the NMC Code of Conduct and validation requirement, Vision and Values of the Private Patient Directorate, Compassion in Practice (DOH 2012) and Royal Brompton & Harefield/GSTT hospitals Policies and Protocols.
Responsibilities
* Developing the patient pathway to ensure that the patient is prepared physically and psychologically to undergo necessary procedures.
* Leading by example to ensure that the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
* Managing the total nursing care of patients within the department competently and being responsible for professional actions.
* Providing the full range of nursing services, including cannulation & phlebotomy, ECG, blood pressure measurement, glucose monitor, urinalysis checks, wound care and any other procedures relevant to gynaecology conditions.
* Ensuring that treatment and consulting rooms are tidy and prepared, including preparation of equipment clinical notes and supplies as required.
* Ensuring that patient records are completed in a timely and accurate way and that nursing documentation is maintained accurately, including electronic records.
* Effectively liaising with the extended multidisciplinary team whenever a patient requires intervention in the various departments to promote a smooth patient journey.
* Using evidence-based practice, quality assurance and clinical audit in all aspects of nursing care.
* Identifying and reporting clinical risks, any accidents/incidents, near misses involving staff, patients, and visitors in accordance with Trust policies and assisting in investigations as required.
* Acting as one of the Health and Safety officer and Fire Marshal for the clinical areas while on duty.
* Assisting the Line Manager in investigating complaints, ensuring efficient management of the department, deputising for the Private Outpatient Sister where applicable, and promoting the 6 Cs of nursing and the private patient gold standard of customer care.
