Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
As a Phlebotomist at Lymington Hospital, you will play an important role in delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑focused care. Your main responsibility is to collect blood samples accurately and professionally, helping provide reliable results that support timely diagnosis and treatment.
Key duties include:
* Collecting blood samples accurately and compassionately.
* Reporting to the Phlebotomy Manager and working closely with fellow phlebotomists, ward and clinic teams, and laboratory staff.
* Ensuring consistent, respectful, and efficient care throughout patients’ diagnostic journey.
* Maintaining quality standards and supporting the Trust’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
* Participating in training and development, including occasional travel to Southampton General Hospital.
This post is two days per week, working 07:15 to 17:00, offering an excellent opportunity to balance work with other commitments. The role is based at Lymington Hospital, with occasional training travel to Southampton General Hospital.
No previous phlebotomy experience is required, as full training and support will be provided.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience – Essential Criteria
* Willingness to learn new skills and ability to work as part of a team but also independently.
* Ability to cope with work pressures in high‑care areas and when difficult to collect blood samples from patients.
* Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* Capability to complete all training packages, including Venesection and cannulation course and ANTT course, within 2 months.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience – Desirable Criteria
* Experience providing healthcare or prior hospital clinical experience.
* Experience in Venesection in an acute setting.
* Experience with hospital IT systems.
* Basic Life Support training.
* NVQ training or willingness to undertake NVQ training (NVQ3 or equivalent).
