We are looking to recruit a staff nurse to join our small team of SACT nurses who deliver systemic anti-cancer therapies on site in the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Leighton Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement, and evaluate care according to changing healthcare needs, including providing clinical expertise, advice, and guidance within the specific area of practice to improve overall care.
2. Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient needs are met.
3. Involve patients and their relatives/carers in care delivery, providing reassurance and support to enhance understanding and cooperation.
4. Prepare the clinical environment for safe practice, ensuring cleanliness and readiness of materials and equipment.
5. Provide escort and transfer for patients as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
6. Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
7. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
Candidate Requirements:
* Previous experience working with cancer patients or in a cancer setting is essential.
* Experience in chemotherapy administration, cannulation, accessing CVADs, phlebotomy, and confidence in administering chemotherapy under nurse-led protocols.
* Must have completed the degree-level module for Chemotherapy administration or possess a SACT passport.
* Flexibility to work between 8 am and 8 pm, with some weekend work anticipated as the service expands.
* Good communication skills and ability to work well in a small team.
This role offers opportunities to learn and develop new skills within a supportive environment. The service currently operates Monday to Friday, with future weekend work expected as the service grows.
