Revenue and Service Charge Accountant

As a Revenue and Service Charge Accountant, you’ll play a vital role within our Finance team, ensuring accurate rent and service charge accounting across our housing stock. You’ll take ownership of key financial processes — from budget setting and reconciliation to reporting and compliance — helping to ensure our financial performance supports the delivery of excellent outcomes for our residents, colleagues, and the organisation.
Working closely with colleagues across Finance, ICT, and Housing, you’ll ensure all rent and service charge activities are managed efficiently, in line with government policy, regulatory standards, and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Rent & Service Charge Budgets: Lead the preparation, calculation, and management of annual rent and service charge budgets, ensuring compliance with government policy, regulatory standards, and tenancy/lease agreements.
* Financial Reporting: Produce monthly management accounts, forecasts, and performance reports, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and strong financial controls.
* Systems & Reconciliations: Maintain and reconcile rent ledgers and control accounts across finance and housing systems (e.g., Northgate, Open Accounts), ensuring data integrity and audit compliance.
* System Development: Support the development and improvement of rent and service charge systems and interfaces, collaborating with ICT to test and implement new processes.
* Customer Support: Assist with and resolve customer queries and complaints related to rent and service charges in line with service standards.
* Audit & Compliance: Prepare financial statements, working papers, and audit evidence, maintaining full compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
* Income Monitoring: Track, analyse, and report on rental income, arrears, bad debt provisions, and variances against budget.
* Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with Finance, ICT, Housing, and Income Collection teams to enhance processes, drive efficiency, and support organisational goals.
* Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate housing stock and property data for financial statements, KPIs, and regulatory reporting.

Who are we looking for?
Our ideal candidate:
* AAT qualified to at least level 4 or part qualified/qualified by experience ACCA/CIMA accountancy qualification
* Ideally similar role or rent/service charge background
