Opcare has been providing prosthetic services in Roehampton since 2008 and has recently been re-awarded the contract. This role offers an excellent opportunity to influence the service to enhance delivery.
The Prosthetic Department is based in the Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre within Queen Mary's Hospital, providing inpatient and outpatient prosthetic care for diverse patients, including complex upper and lower limb cases, congenital limb builds, and pediatric provisions. Our team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation consultants, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, and an onsite gait lab team.
All prosthetic manufacturing is performed by skilled onsite technicians, promoting a collaborative approach to device design and manufacture, including clinics run by clinical support technicians.
Main duties of the job
This role involves managing a complex caseload, requiring clinical expertise in at least one prosthetic area, with opportunities for specialization. The post is key in working with the prosthetic team and wider NHS MDT to improve service delivery. The successful candidate will be part of the senior clinical team and mentor less experienced staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure high-quality patient care and smooth service operation.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Queen Mary’s Hospital and the wider Trust, including surgeons and consultants.
* Develop expertise in a specific prosthetic practice area, preferably upper limb, osseointegration, or complex limb builds.
* Share knowledge and mentor junior colleagues, graduates, and students.
* Contribute to in-service training sessions.
* Support service development and improvements for patients at Queen Mary’s and St George’s Hospitals.

Qualifications (Essential)
* BSc in Prosthetics and Orthotics
* Certified Prosthetist
* HND in Prosthetics
* Full HCPC Registration
