We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment, championing historic places and helping people understand, value and care for them.
Historic England invites you to join as a Data Specialist. This part‑time, 0.6 FTE (21.6 hours per week) fixed‑term contract is based in York with hybrid working options.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Data Specialist you will prepare drone‑derived geospatial data for long‑term preservation and public access: collating, cleaning, standardising and archiving datasets, assessing data sensitivity, licensing and metadata, and ensuring compliance with archive standards to enable reuse in research, heritage management, and public engagement.
What We Are Looking For
* High standard academic qualification or significant relevant experience in archaeology, geospatial science, data management, or a related discipline.
* Experience working with geospatial datasets, particularly photogrammetry, LiDAR, or other remote sensing data.
* Experience or proven interest in working with heritage data, archives, collection management or a related research environment.
* Demonstrable experience in data management, preparation or digital archiving.
* Ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload within a fixed‑term project.
We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability or neurodiversity, we are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments. We recognise the importance of a healthy work‑life balance and offer flexible working options, including job sharing, part‑time working, compressed hours and hybrid working.
We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates and candidates with disabilities, as they are underrepresented within Historic England at this level.
