Overview
Odyssey House School is a new special school setting aiming to provide high-quality education to students with additional needs, primarily high-functioning autism, anxiety and EBSA. The school follows a differentiated National Curriculum with the aim of achieving qualifications at Key Stage 4 and 5, including Entry Level, Functional Skills, GCSEs and other Level 2 qualifications.
Responsibilities
* Teach SEN students of various ages and abilities, in line with ISS and OHS standards.
* Identify, plan and review needs; differentiate learning strategies; monitor progress and attainment.
* Produce documents and reports for students; monitor social communication development.
* Under the guidance of the Headteacher, liaise with parents and, if required, other agencies (e.g., GP, social workers, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists).
* Develop subject delivery flexibly within the school ethos; supervise Learning Mentors and provide pastoral support to students.
* Provide cover lessons across subjects as required.
* Set clear learning objectives; plan engaging lessons; set high expectations for behaviour, learning and presentation.
* Utilise prior attainment and learning styles to set challenging targets; develop literacy and numeracy skills; provide intervention activities to boost attainment.
* Set work for students absent from school; manage behaviour in line with the Behaviour for Learning Policy.
* Maintain classroom resources and Health & Safety standards; take responsibility for safeguarding; contribute to tutor group programmes.
* Attend meetings, undertake professional development, and contribute to the smooth running of the school as required by the Headteacher.
Assessment, Recording and Reporting
* Maintain lesson plans and records of students’ work; provide constructive feedback with clear targets.
* Use data to set aspirational targets and plan challenging activities; record student results within the school system.
* Set and mark examinations, assessments and coursework as assigned; attend Parent/Teacher Evenings and meetings to inform parents of progress.
Pastoral Responsibilities
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people; act as form tutor as required.
* Be the first point of contact for parents/carers in the tutor group; monitor and set targets for social and academic progress.
* Deliver tutorial programmes; promote good attendance and punctuality; provide support/intervention as needed.
General Professional Responsibilities
* Attend meetings; undertake professional development; implement school policies.
* Model professional standards in dress, attendance and conduct; meet deadlines; perform duties necessary for school operations as assigned by the Headteacher.
Qualifications
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in Special Education (desirable).
* Proven experience working with children with special educational needs.
* Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
* Ability to develop and implement care plans; experience in numeracy and literacy teaching.
* Understanding of education requirements across subjects.
