A well-established food manufacturing operation is seeking an Interim Assistant Hygiene Manager to support the delivery of high hygiene, safety, and environmental standards across a busy production site.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing hygiene operations, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and supporting site readiness for audits and inspections.
The Role
You will play a key role in managing hygiene operations across the site, ensuring cleaning standards, environmental compliance, and operational hygiene requirements are consistently achieved.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting the management of all site hygiene services, ensuring quality, hygiene, and cost targets are achieved
* Leading and supervising a team of hygiene operatives, ensuring labour is effectively planned and deployed
* Driving hygiene standards across the factory floor and supporting preparation for BRC and retailer audits
* Ensuring compliance with HACCP, COSHH, and environmental legislation
* Managing pest control follow-ups and implementing corrective actions where required
* Overseeing waste management processes in line with environmental and legislative standards
* Working closely with technical, production, engineering, and distribution teams to maintain hygiene standards
* Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in hygiene processes, equipment, and efficiency
* Supporting environmental management systems and maintaining relevant documentation
* Ensuring strong health & safety practices across the hygiene operation
About You
We are looking for someone with strong hygiene and food safety experience within a food manufacturing environment who can lead from the front and maintain high operational standards.
You will ideally have:
* Experience in FMCG or food manufacturing (around 8+ years)
* Management experience leading hygiene or operational teams
* Advanced Food Hygiene qualification
* Strong working knowledge of HACCP and COSHH
* Experience supporting BRC or major retailer audits
* The ability to lead and motivate teams within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
* A hands-on approach with strong organisational and problem-solving skills
* IOSH training or strong health & safety awareness
